Callington School Sport Partnership held two Gifted and Talented within Sport, (G&T) Academy Days during the recent Easter break. A fantastic 2 days were held at Callington and Budehaven! Attending pupils were nominated by their schools.
Run by Rob Francis, Competition Manager for the Partnership, with support from Jane Cann at Budehaven and Nicola Davey at Callington, the days focused on SAQ Movement (Speed, Agility & Quickness), Fundamental Movements, Nutrition, Prevention of Injuries and overall Core Strength. Each pupil was able to relate the activities back to their individual sport enabling them to become a better athlete and more efficient in their own movement - even Swimmers have to work hard on land-based training across core strength and Fundamental Movements.
The skills that were learnt were then put into practice during games-based activities, teamwork games and a final assault course. Particpating pupils' main sports varied from Swimming to Rugby, and from Athletics to Surfing. The day was aimed at improving the individual, no matter what their sport!
Pupils' feedback was very positive on the day; one pupil said, 'I thought the games and exercises were fun. I like the atmosphere and teachers'
Another said, 'I learnt lots of new skills'.
